grading in elementary art

In our school district, elementary students receive evaluations three times
a year; two of those times involve parent conferences with the classroom
teacher. Specialists, art included, give grades to the classroom teacher
who includes them with their grades. Our "grades" are an "S" for
"satisfactory" or an "R" for "reinforcement needed". We give written
comments to one-third of the students in each classroom each grading time
(so each student gets one comment from us during the year). My question
is, how do any of the rest of you elemtary teachers deal with grading? and
what kind of comments would you write; and how do you keep track of what
students are doing when you're dealing with so many? I would be interested
in any feedback or ideas. Thanks!
