Sure, you can marbelize with recipes and special supplies that
you have to order or run out and get (granted these will give you a
more professional look) can marbelize the simple way and
still get some nice results. All you do is fill a tray with water and
use a pair of scissors to scratch off pastels to a powder form over
the water. Once there is a nice layer of color floating on top of the
water touch your paper to the surface and viola! For some reason the
black and gray pastels will still smudge like pastels, however the
other colors do not as long as the pastels are scraped in powdery
amounts and not chunks. They do not even need a fixative. I have
students marbelize cool and warm color schemes which become the top
and bottom of an origami box. They love it.
