This memorial is in my mind the most powerful work of art I've yet to
encounter and I teach about it to my 3rd grade students when we study
sculpture and public art. I was fortunate enough to visit the Memorial
when I attended the NAEA Baltimore Convention and my roommate's husband,
who had been killed in Viet Nam, is listed on the wall. She had never been
to see it and it was very moving to be with her.
I will futher post a summary of the issues surrounding the VVM - a research
topic I chose for an Aesthetics/Criticism Class at the U of AZ. I think
the grad students develop wonderful and useful material that should be
shared. I hope you can put this info to good use. If not the trash can is
not far away!
