Dear San D,
Concerning the "mission" of high schools regarding career preparation for art
students--I strongly believe we have to give them a picture of what is
happening in the real world.
I have a thick folder in the classroom with newspaper articles about people
who are sucessfully earning their livelihood in creative field. We are
contantly adding to it. It also contains lists of schools, statistics about
salaries and fees. I have a copy of the "Fees and Contracts for Graphic
Artists" book. We have tapes available to show students of interviews with
students who have gone on to intern positions and jobs in the field of art. I
have taken my students on field trips to NBC studios computer graphics
department facility. I want them to know what is out there for them if they
have a vison and the desire to work hard.
