      I understand the blue skyline and the green groundline with white or
clear air in between, but kids I grew up with and have taught in other places
used black crayons to outline white clouds and very few kids here do that,
though more do than in the past. There are a few other things like drawing an X
instead of a vertical cross for window panes when drawing a house that seem to
be learned. I asked a student about something of that sort and his response
was that his (kindergarten) teacher showed him the way to do it. I suspect that
some of these things are a learned convention like the sun in the corner of
the paper.
