Proportion is a hard concept, especially as it relates to the body. It could be
that you would need to back up and do some preliminary lessons on proportion
itself before introducing it as it relates to the body. It could also be a
little early for these students. Some people wait until middle school to teach
realistic, ideal and distorted proportions. Some people would even argue that
students at this age may not want/desire/able to draw what they see...they
would prefer to draw what they know. Hang in there. Teaching art is
challenging!
