[teacherartexchange] Word Wall

Date: Thu Sep 07 2006 - 12:19:59 PDT

Hello Everybody,
After reading the recent discussions about word walls, I was
inspired to start my own. As this is our second day of school (I
teach Middle School), I am doing alot of review with my students
concerning color theory. Today I dedicated a bulletin board that the
kids could all reach to become our official "Word Wall". I then cut
out 3" x 9" britely colored pieces of paper and had them ready with a
stapler and a sharpie marker. As we discussed color theory in class,
the students were called upon to come up with the correct terms.
Whoever came up with the right answer was given a paper, the marker and
stapler and was able to write their answer and add it to the wall.
After just one class we already have 13 new words on our wall! The
kids really enjoyed being able to add the words themselves. (It also
helps to fill all of those bulletin boards for back to school night!) I
can see continuing with this idea for the rest of the year. Thank you
to everybody for being a constant source of inspiration!
