The Ruby Payne book is excellent. It really helped me to understand my
urban kids.

My quadrant supervisor just suggested a book titled "A Framework for
Understanding Poverty" by Ruby Payne.

 

I'm running to the local library (or to Amazon) to buy it. From what I
understand there are school districts that have an entire curricula
based on Payne philosophies (and from what I've heard, they're pretty
positive and significant).

PS. If you do a google search on "Ruby Payne" you can find oodles of
sites that will give you an overview of who she is and what her book is
about.
