liquid starch

Date: Mon Sep 27 2004 - 18:37:47 PDT

I did a lesson years ago with 2nd grade. They drew a large fruit or
vegetable with pencil on paper. Then they brushed it with liquid starch
and tore pieces of colored tissue and brushed over those for the fruit ,
then used complementary colors for the background. For example , a big
orange pumpkin with a blue background. They added a little lines of
texture with black marker. At the time a teacher at my school had brought
in boxes and boxes of colored tissue in about 5 inch squares. They had
been to their daughters college for homecoming and saw all the boxes of
tissue left over from the float building. The college kids were glad to
donate all their leftover. Most of the packages hadn't even been opened.
In fact I still have some, but it has gotten my thinking Now, my own kids
are in college and homecoming is coming up! I'm thinking I'll track down
some more freebies! I want to do this lesson again, especially good around
Thanksgiving time.
