I called my pest control company and they told me there's a special type of wood borer in Mexico that once inside your house can cause irreparable damage to wood floors and furniture. They advised that I put the sculpture in a double plastic bag and throw it away, as they knew no effective form of killing the little devils. Maybe I got rid of a perfectly fine piece of art, but I still have my furniture intact.
