hello list,
i am currently a student teacher at an inner city elementary school. i have
taken over half of the courseload-grades k,1,5 and i already feel overwhelmed!!
my biggest problem has been management. i am specifically interested in ideas
for getting my students attention when i lose them. i am doing pretty well
with the fifth graders so far but the first graders, especially the afternoon
kids, are just crazy as well as the kindergartners how do you get your students
attention? i've tried a whistle, freeze like a statue, hitting the lights,
waiting for them to be quiet, proximity, asking q's to talking students, etc. but
i still need lots of help and suggestions.

my other question is cleanup. i have no planning period and five minutes
between classes so i need to make sure that my students clean up quickly! how do
you get students to wind down and start cleaning up. i've tried to make it like
a game looking for clean and quiet tables, always picking a winner and
sometimes having a stamp or some sort of prize. what do you do to get your students
to clean up!?

thank you!!!!! i appreciate all of your feedback and advice!!
