I just got an idea today for second grade. In science, our second graders
study the life cycle of butterflies...so I have always done butterfly designs to
complement that lesson (looking at real butterfiles, what the the patterns
mean, symmetry, etc). Today I was at a craft fair and saw a yarn painting...I
do appologize as I know it is the Yuchol Indians in South American (pardon my
spelling) who do the yarn and bead paintings. So...my ideas is to have them do
the same lesson with the oil crayon/butterly design, then do a yarn painting
of the same design. Incorporating some history of the Yuchol people and the
real techniques which used fine yarn or beads in wax to make the designs. I
have tons of crewl (again, pardon that spelling!) and find strings that could be
used in the designs.
