Fwd: Difficult & Depressed Child

attached mail follows:

Hi Friends,
Here's my a problem: I have a student who is really out of control in the
classroom and will do the most bizarre things to get attention--fall out of his
seat, yell profanities at me, throw paper, etc. at me, and so on. He
knows all this is wrong (he looks for the reactions of his fellow classmates
after I get hit) -after all, he is a 13 year old, but continues to thrive on this
attention. I know all of you out there have had a child similiar to this in
your classroom; however; here's the catch...he has attempted suicide
numerous times. Where do I begin to discipline such a high risk child as this?!?
Thanks in advance and TGIF!!!! Jill (BT)
PS My school is located in the inner city Chicago Illinois--West side
neighborhood; minorities, single moms, poverty, unemployment, etc. AND numerous
budget cuts--NO counselors, many OVERCROWDED classrooms (over 40-45 kids), & NO
caseworkers! (Leave No Children BEHIND?!?!?!)
