ONe more day of summer vacation for me. I'm thinking about the first day and
I remembered what I did for first day(s) last year. It's pretty entertaining
and I thought I would share it. Got it from my son's 5th grade teacher. It was
a hit with my 7 & 8th graders.
Bring in a couple of rolls of toilet paper. After they have settled into
their seats show it to them and tell them to take some amount of t.p. They ask all
sorts of questions, but refuse to answer stating that they just need to take
some. After the rolls makes it around the room and they're dying to know
what's going on, you spill the beans. You say....
"Okay, I want everyone to count the number of t.p pieces they have and
that number is how many things about yourself you must tell to the class when
you introduce yourself".
They all start laughing and of course there will some boys who have like 100
sheets and some smart ones who are only holding one. Immediately I tell them
that if they destroy or hide their sheets I will double the amount (of course I
wouldn't). I had a max of 10 things no matter how many sheets they had and
many would list 50 if you gave them the time.
Word spread about this so I can't do it for a while but it was very
entertainting. No real art connection but just fun and memorable.
