Sandy - this is such a good idea!... I just thought of
another idea. You would have to separate the mylar
from the paper. Have student draw a portrait on the
mylar with permanent markers (maybe even working from
a high contrast digital photo of themselves?)-- then
overlay it over an abstract- non-objective
painting...sort of Peter Max like...OR overlay the
portrait over a tissue paper collage (Andy Warhol
like)...You really got the wheels turning now.
This is a stretch... maybe use it for some contour
figure drawings? You would have to get some free
Plexiglas (easy to do from places that do windows).
Tape the mylar to the Plexiglas - have the kids draw
the figures right on the mylar with permanent
markers....overlay those drawings over some
experimental paintings, too. Have the painting part be
very loose and exploratory - try all sorts of
techniques. Might work for a still life set up too -
but might not be as much fun as figure drawing.
What do you think Maggie - would that tie in with your
figure drawing unit?
Ooooo.... use it to help learn the tools of
perspective. Overlay photographs (or reproductions)
and find the vanishing points - find the vanishing
lines - horizon line - and so forth.
