I seem to recall that there is a specific product to be used as a 'glaze' for polymer clay. Probably found for$$$ at a store where the clay is also sold.

Thanks for the suggestion with polymer clay - I have lots of old pieces from
canes - we will mix for a 'brown' - run a leaf through the pasta machine and
rub with pearl-ex... we used the powder on small (1/2" masks) last year -
from the scrap clay - they were better than the masks with the colorful
canes - I used gold/copper/blue and green - can't wait to try the leaves -
