Subject: Fw: [aeai] AEAI E-News....A Contest
This is a contest put forth by an Indiana Educator. Reply to him if you wish more information. Thank you
AEAI E-News
I am a poet and fiction writer who teaches high
school and adult level poetry classes at The Writer's
Center of Indiana. In the past, I taught middle
school English and benefited from cross-curriculum
assignments with art. I appreciate the work you are
doing to protect art departments around the state and
would like to help the cause with a book of poems.
"The State of the Union" is a collection of 51 poems
written about every state in our nation and the
District of Columbia. Each poem offers a vicarious
road trip experience to the reader, disclosing
metaphorically the positive growth of this country
within specific state borders. It unites the nation
in poetry and with your help, a national high school art contest could be created to join the publication,
furthering the unifying theme.
I am looking to send participating teachers a copy of
the poem written about their State. Interested
students will create an 8 1/2 X 11 black and white
drawing based on their interpretation of the poem.
The teacher sends the work to the poet (me) and one
winner from each state is selected for publication in
the collection. The winning artists will be rewarded
with a copy of the book and the satisfaction of
joining artists from around the nation in a collection
of poetry.
The support of the AEAI and the NAEA could
help me get the word out to teachers in Indiana and
the United States. An interdisciplinary contest will
be an important security deposit for art departments
in our public schools and will benefit student
creativity and acknowledgement.
I appreciate any advice you have on the subject and
would love to discuss the possibilities in the near
future.
Thank You,
Yours Truly,
Joseph Foster

I am seeking your help in proposing this idea at a
board meeting to discover what level of interest there
could be. The support of the AEAI and the NAEA could
