I have to start thinking about our winter celebration, the Festival of
Light. This is an all school event - our school is private and goes from
3rd to 12th - about 600 kids. All of the performing groups perform and I
get to do the decorations.
Hi Jane and Melissa,
How about having your students design gift wrapping paper? You could
actually wrap different size boxes with it, add big bows, and put them on or around
the stage. Very adaptable to your wide range of students, I think. You can
teach repetition, pattern, and printmaking with the younger students, do paper
tie dye with the older ones, as well as Op Art designs. Another idea would be
to wrap the boxes first then have the kids design them in the style of famous
artists. I think the gift wrapping idea is non-secular yet appropriate for
everyone during the holiday season. Besides, Art is the "Gift that Keeps on
Giving"!
