As co-chair for the Texas conference, I can tell you that you have the same
situation we have in Texas. The reason? Money.
Conferences are the major fund raiser for most art ed associations.
Presentations and other volunteer duties are considered professional
commitment opportunities.
If it makes you feel any better, I have to register and pay fees just the
same as anyone else who attends the Texas conference although my
professional commitment has consumed almost 18 months of my time and I will
be on call during the entire TAEA conference plus presenting a workshop and
attending meetings.
