Re: short class time, dispersing supplies, etc.In PA we have an internet
test that is supposed to be used to help districts decide what in-service
programs the teachers most need. You have to take a test that measures
language arts and math skills for the grade level you teach. I think even
special area teachers have to take it. This year was supposed to be our
year to take it, but I haven't heard anything about it. I did hear a rumor
that Governor Ed Rendell did away with it, but who knows? We also have to
get a 180 hours of professional development every 5 years to remain
certified. This is called Act 48. It can be costly if your district does
not supply you with prof. dev. opportunities. It is especially hard for
substitute teachers to keep their certifications.
