Eileen,
I teach in a K-5 school that has a dual language program. I am really sorry
the K teacher is being a jerk. It's NOT in the best interest of those two
little ones. Thank God, I speak Spanish, but there's a lot of art vocab. I don't
know in Spanish. But the Spanish teachers are WONDERFUL. And so are the
bilingual kids. Is there another bilingual person on staff or a bilingual parent that
volunteer to help you during your time in that class? I also have many many
other English learners who speak at least 18 different languages that I DON'T
speak.
Keep it simple. Use body language. Repeat things over and over. Say simple
sentences when you demo, and stress the vocabulary.
Email privately me if you want more help.
