Sandy, please keep me posted. Right now I'm kinda leaning to either doing tip -ins, as Michal described or something along that line. I want each 5th grade student to creat their own spread, with some similarities (Like tracing their hand and their signature) and some unique qualities (like how they decorated their hand). The idea of a poem isvery cool, but ideally, I'd like to pull a kid out of the class project for a day - one class- to do this, and have this ongoing, all year. Then they could still hear/ be a part of the class, but they would be creating something of their own. Nothing would have to go home, and after school or during lunch wouldn't be necessary. It'd be cool if there was a special set of supplies just to be used for this project so that it'd be a cool ' other ' thing to do. The final book would become an auction item at our school's annual fundraiser. (5th grade is the last grade before going to Middle Divison.)
Whew.

Suggestions? Ideas for organization?

Jan

Jan,

Still trying to figure that out. I want to do it in addition to my
everyday lessons. I was thinking I would introduce it to them during
classtime. First we would put our self-portraits in them (final
drawing) after having practiced and discussing portraiture ahead of
time. I have a bunch of handouts and worksheets for this project. Then
I want them to do an autobiographical poem, not sure what style.I have
several princiales of design lessons that I want to work on. So, they
will have basics to work on. Some of these lessons can be combined with
poems and can be directly done in their books. I thought I would
introduce different techniques along with artists as they correspond to
my timeline theme, too. Each student would have to use that technique
or style in their book and then in each others, hopefully illustrating a
poem. Now this is where the extra tutoring time comes in and my lunch
lab. Kids will have extra time to work on their books. They can also
be worked in if they have finished a project ahead of their classmates.
I just have to have a clever way of organizing all of this along with
the materials! I always get all these big ideas and then practically
have a nervous breakdown. I will send details to you when I get them
all worked out.

I just found out that I have a student teacher coming. I'm not sure
when, but this semester sometime! Administration is a wonderful thing.
Keep me posted to how you are going to do yours, too. I have an extra
art room storage area where I think I may set up the altered books and
materials.

Id like to prepare a station for whoever would be working on the AB project so that I wouldn;t have to get our different supplies each day....
