Re: Help with one 8th grade class (Behavioral issues)

I am in 2 new schools this year (same system) and have 500+ students to meet
and learn about. The 4th and 5th graders so far have been the toughest but I
am very no nonsense with them and have told them about my Rules and
Consequences. They get 2 verbal warnings from me (quite generous) and then it's a
written behavioral lesson sitting away from the class. I tell them I document
everything and may show them to the principal or parents if I am questioned on an
art grade. There is also a telephone in class and I told them I will call
parents during class and put the student on the phone to tell Mom/Dad why the art
teacher is calling. Now, I never had to do this in my previous schools
because I have known the 5th graders since kindergarten. But...I will follow
through with this with my new students. I let them sit wherever they wanted to on
the 1st day and I wrote down the names of those students that I had to
separate. I told them they would get their "special art seats" next week. LOL
Let me know if you want a copy of my behavior lesson. I got it online and
just changed a few things.
Take care,
Carolyn in MA
