Well... I am sure this isn't what you are looking for....but I was just
about to post these dinosaur projects...they do relate to size and
scale --and large and small.
I had Eileen in mind....but here goes.
I found this great lesson on making paper mache dinosaurs -- starting with
basic shape drawing:
http://www.childrensmuseum.org/kinetosaur/c1.html
I was looking for life size paper mache at the time...who know what you will
find when you do a Google search?
There are links on this lesson to life size Kinetosaurs by John Payne -
click around and see all of the science this link will bring. I'm still
looking.

I was thinking of Anne-Clarie's shadow box dinorama's for showing near and
far - large and small. You could very easily get the kids uniform size boxes
for this project.
You could even go as large of pop can trays....but any grocery story would
be happy to provide you with boxes you can cut down to make shallow shadow
boxes.

Anne Clair and I chuckle about this over the summer...we seem to come up
with the same ideas....like minds I guess. She is in Portugal and I am in
Ohio. Her kids got very inventive though with their dinosaurs. See more on
Anne-Clairs' site: http://www.ludosafe.com/galeria/v_dino_2003_1.htm It
looks like the kids even got to move like dinosaurs.
Eileen if you are interested in dinosaurs....Sandy Bacon has some WONDERFUL
ideas. Her kids made a complete skeleton out of clay and reassembled it.
Each kid had an assigned piece to make. Post a question to list for Sandy
Bacon if you want to know more about all of the science she did with her
students in art.
Jamie... after I know your grade level, I may be able to think up some ideas
for you. I can think of all sorts of ways to connect printmaking to math
and science.
Judy Decker
P.S. for LeAnn - I thought the dino lesson (of course for you using animals)
might be a way for kids to have their own take home project from the life
size unit. One grade could be making their own while a few at a time do the
big ones. Just a thought. It shows a nice way to construct an armature of
newspapers and tape. I have tried to explane this process via
email...pictures work so much better. I am glad I "discovered" this link
today. I'll be linking it to my Oaxacan animal lesson ....sometime.
