DEar Jana,
Someone in my parish used to grow gourds, but I didn't know they did. But,
they have a book they let me borrow (no gourds). The book is Gourd Fun for
Everyone
by Sammie Crawford, the Fairy Godmother.

She is in the American Gourd Society and the National Society of Decorative
Painters. The book has a cowboy, a farmer, Egg ornament, snowman with,
mermaid, necklace, lighthouse, a birdhouse that looks like half of an orange
with a straw in it. Pretty cute. It also haas other projects and good step
by step directions.

It says dry them, soak in 1/4 cup of bleach and a couple of inches of water.
Ten minutes, then scrub with a plastic scrubber pad. Remove all of the
moldand fungus or it will grow back and make your paint flake off. She uses
spackle to fill the holes and then sands it.
