Re: wire from Home Depot

Date: Sat Sep 14 2002 - 09:37:02 PDT

<PRE>For the past few years I've bought fence wire at Home Depot - about $4.00 a
roll. Usually 3 rolls is enough for 50 students (8th graders) to make
sculptures ala Calder. They love it, and the 6th and 7th graders beg to be
allowed to do the sculptures too. The only downside is the wire is covered
with some kind of black stuff that comes off for the first few days. It's
not bad enough to not use it, though. And the sculptures are terrific.
Some make large ones, and some make small ones. It seems like the larger
ones (several feet in height) usually turn out best. We've had so many
wonderful ones - a horse's head about 2 feet high, a 3 foot cat head, a
life-size computer sculpture. For $12.00 it's been one of our best
projects! Genie Holt, Wickenburg, AZ
