Hello,
As a new teacher I would really like to hear what the criticism was you
received on your totem pole project. From your description about the project,
it doesn't seem like you were doing "surface multiculturalism" which is often
criticized.
    In my opinion a strong multicultural lesson is one in which students
study a culture, then create a project that allows them to contruct their
own understandings of their own culture and the culture being studied.
