Betsy,
Step 1: Look at the software that came with the scanner. See if it is
compatible with Windows 98. If it is, there should be some kind of
documentation that comes with the scanner to explain how to configure it to
work with Windows 98.
Step 2. If there is no information about this, go to the scanner brand
website (you didn't mention what kind you got from the PTO). Do a little
research to find out if your scanner and the software that came with it can
be used with Windows 98. You might even be able to find a download software
that will make it compatible.
Step 3. If the first two things don't work, call up the place that sold it to
you or the help desk of the manufacturer and ask how to get it to work with
Windows 98.
