I echo Becky - I am insistent that they learn to control pencil pressure,
keep the point they need to get the effect and show me that they can work
with values and a variety of pencils , THEN the smudgers might come out
for charcoal or pastel, later on. Somebody has to teach them control - I
guess it is me (high school).
