I used to post to this list a few years ago and have recently rejoined and
feel like I should introduce myself. My name is Carolyn and I teach k-5 in
Massachusetts. (I remember many of the names but the list seems kind of
slow). Is this still a high traffic list or has Getty done something?
Anyway, I am glad to be here and hope to check in on a semi-regular basis.
I start school tomorrow and I looked at my schedule and could not believe my
eyes. Due to severe budget cuts (my art one included) they have decreased
classes. I am now teaching 4 less classes per week. We have a 7 class
schedule with one of them being a prep but on Fridays I only teach 3 classes
with 4 preps.(3 extra ones) On Thursdays I have 3 reps also (2 extra). Now I
could keep my mouth shut and enjoy it but I know that it is not fair so I am
thinking of some ways to use that time. (principal has said nothing to me but
told the gym teacher to "fill it" )This is what I have come up with....maybe
help another teacher with arts integration, offer the time that happens
during recess as a "workshop" time for students who need to finish up work,
maybe be a "guest art teacher" at one of the other schools if their schedule
allows. I just don't know. Does anyone have any ideas for all of that extra
time? Thank you and it is good to be here.
