It was kind of fun to assign letters to each student, and have them "sign"
their letter with their other hand and do a contour of it on a square of
paper. They didn't know what they were spelling until all were posted and
they got to read it on the wall. We did quotes on art, with a blank sheet
placed between words. I would let early finishers do extra letters if needed
to help it all come out even. I had a cool and colorful "Art is visual
language" poster along the top of my room thanks to this lesson.
Incidentally, I had a student with no hearing the time I started this, and he
thought it was cool to use "his" language on a project.
