Glencoe - Art in Focus
McGraw Hill - History of Western Art
Prentice Hall - Understanding Art
Davis - Exploring Visual Design, Discovering Drawing, The Photographic Eye,
Design
      and Drawing, Foundations of Graphic Design

Contact some of the major publishers and they might be willing to send you a
text.
Or befriend a local art teacher and see if they he/she would loan you a text
book...please remember to return it.

I tend to use text for reference...other than the photography text.

Plus we are in the process of looking for new text books...especially a
Calligraphy text. There is a new edition of the Art in Focus (?) out this
year.
