FINE ARTS CLASSES ORDERED BY MARYLAND STATE BOARD.
Acting on an appeal from parents, the Maryland State Board of Education
ruled
last week that the Anne Arundel County school system must require all middle
school students (grades 6-8) to take physical education, fine arts, and
health classes. Until now, the county school system allowed these classes to
be offered, but not required, although state regulations had mandated them.
Principals across the county are pressing to resolve staffing and scheduling
problems associated with this change, which takes effect in January.
