You might also check on Montessori methods of teaching...I am not real
familiar with their methods, but I think they use a "watch me and do it
yourself" kind of teaching...at least that's what I have been told...I also
have a friend whose father is deaf...I may ask him what would be a good way
to communicate with this student...

My son had a camper this summer who spoke no english, so he had to learn some
basic spanish phrases in order to communicate with this child who had come to
camp from Venezuela...and he could hear and speak and see....
