Teaching Abstract Expressionism can be hard. Look at it from the context that
before this movement everything was European, basically Pablo Picasso.
Jackson Pollack brought art to the United States and made New York the center
of the art world during that time. For a better understanding see the Jackson
Pollack movie. Towards the end of the movie the artist mentions Clifford
Still and the critic with him in the scene says Clifford Still is new to the
galleries, you had your time. Not an exact quote.
I think the most important information I got from the movie is yes
Jackson Pollack would stare at his paintings a long time before working on
them and that he stated that nothing in his paintings are accidents! If you
view the movie and don't agree, please write back. Maybe I have to view it a
second time.
