Right now the justification from the principal is that it
"fits". By the time materials are distributed and the lesson
is introduced it leaves very little time for learning!

My suggested requires that you do a little maneuvering, and
enlist unsuspecting faculty members as well. I would
probably "run" a holiday crafts workshop for teachers and
make sure my principal was part of it (harder it it's a
male, but perhaps you can have a drop in and ask him to come
by for the holiday punch and cookies). I would then do a
lesson with them and then at 20 minutes stop them and say
"aren't we glad this period isn't over quite yet? But my
students aren't as lucky as you are, they have to clean up
at this point". I say holiday workshop because I could name
at least 10 teachers in my building who would like to take a
crafts workshop on a variety of things, and I am sure you
could find people who would as well. Besides it'll be fun
too!
