I recall that when I was new at my school last year, students were not
respectful during the Pledge of Allegiance. I admonished them and tried to
explain how lucky they were to live in this great country of liberty and
freedom. Personally, I don't think it meant that much to them, being so
young and self absorbed. Along with the lessons of peace and expression
through art, children need to realize how precious freedom is, and not take
our liberty for granted. Students also need to be told that all jobs have
dignity and should be done thoroughly. Carelessness can be a dangerous
