I have made many efforts to be involved in the intellectual decison making at
our school...and time and time again I am passed over for these committees
(some of which are paid positions for summer work) in favor of the "important
teachers...aka classroom teachers or reading/writing specialists. Even for
programs like school behavior programs....it is very frustrating. It is hard
to be involved when you are not allowed to be involved because you are "just"
the art teacher.
Although...with that said...I continue to try and keep in the forefront as
best I can. I completely agree that you have to participate in the process
and make your voice heard. If that means writing letters, e-mail to union
reps, union presidents, etc...keep at it!!!
