Bookbinding--Colonial America style

As part of my unit on Colonial Arts (this time around with 6th graders) I'm considering having them make paper and then bind a few sheets together into a small book.
What's the best way to sew books like this together? I know there's been discussion about this before, but I'm not sure where to find it.
