Long post- I need advice............
I find this thread to be so interesting. I got a BS in
Art Ed. I took the first level of every studio
offered, three levels of drawing, three levels of
painting, and 18 hours of art history (I got six art
history hours for going on a Middle East study
abroad.) Anyway, just thought I would share how I feel
about having so little studio experience- completely
inadequate. I really don't feel worthy to teach art,
yet I am certified and I am doing it anyway. Yes, art
is a passion for me- I adore reading about it,
critiquing it, looking at it, interacting with it,
watching other people make it, learning all I can
about it, etc. I just have very little art work that I
have made that I feel proud of. The only way I will
feel validated is if I take more classes and/or
workshops to help me feel more comfortable creating
art. I am also really comfortable interacting with
people, especially children, which is why I chose this
field. I am trying to decide what to do to make myself
feel more comfortable. I want a master's degree- not
comfortable with MFA- not prepared for rigor of art
history master's program. I am considering a M.ed in
counseling- to be a secondary school guidance
counselor. This is my first year teaching- I am 24,
and I will probably get married next year. So many
life questions- would love some sage advice......
