When I got my BFA in 1982, there was an Arizona substitute teaching
certificate available with a minimum of a certain number of hours working
toward a bachelors degree. As I recall it wasn't necessary to have a full
four year degree to get the certificate, at that time. This certificate
allows you to substitute teach up to a maximum of half of the days each
semester, in any public school. At the time I needed a part time job and
it paid fairly well, you just had to register with the districts you were
interested in, and they would put you on the list for calls. My
certificate is still valid now, although I believe the requirements for
getting one has changed these days (not sure about that). I spent some
time substituting part time in elementary through seventh grade classrooms,
back in the 80's, when I was also a part time rock musician with colored
hair... what a combination! :-)
