Did not know Margaret Mead had views on art. Tell us more.
I do let my kids do Christmass things but only those that pertain to art first
1. Kinder - we make large angels and I divide the classes into three groups -
Renaissance angels, folk art angels and modern art angels. We use wallpaper
- for
the folk art angels and place the pieces in a quilt pattern. Renaissance - I
let them
go wild with all the hearts they are so proud to be able to draw - lots of
curly q's etc.
and glitter Gabrielle style - it it does not look right - use more glitter.
The modern
art angels are evolving - do not like the end product on them at this time.
May switch to another era - maybe Impressionism with soft colors. Anyway the
kids learn or at least hear the art words and whats even better ( I think) is
that alot of
parents mat and frame these to hang up every year during the season. I have
fifth graders who have told me that their Moms hang them every year and what
fun they are to have. Will share another Christmas project another day.

Supplies needed - 12 x 16 sheet of heavy drawing paper (80 lb)
12 x 16 sheet of construction paper
wallpaper, glitter,
All angels are drawn using the full size of the 12 by 16 paper - I use
circles
and triangles to get them started. Why some color their angel faces blue and
green remains a mystery to me - is it wrong to ask them to correct their
faces? From there on we build up the angel that has now been glued onto the
construction paper
Wings are large triangles that they learn to modify with a wave like border.
