A "Painting to Music" Lesson

I have put up another "how-to" lesson at Wetcanvas.com. This one is a
tempera paint exercise I did with students grade 4 thru grade 9,
Interpreting music by painting.

I wanted the young people to recognize that various components of music also
exist in visual arts. Rythym such as percussion, bass and drums laying down
a repetitive track that pulls the piece together. Visually...repetitions of
colors, of lines, various marks, etc., accomplish the same. I had the
students listen to a Celtic song, and the song "Smooth" on Santana's new CD.
They then painted their response in black. The next time they came....we
listened again, setting the mode on the boom box to "Repeat", and then
discussed color and painted. At any rate, I hope you'll visit the site and
find it useful.

As a side note...drop me a little note at my school email if you have any
compliments or encouragements for the students whose work is featured. As
you would know....they'll get a big kick out of that!
