Dear Kimberly:

Here is the TCA URL: http://www.arts.state.tx.us/

The TCA grant for travel to the national art education conference that I
mentioned is a team-building grant. Arts teachers may apply for this grant.
It is a 50/50 grant (e.g., TCA pays half of what an art teacher spends). Up
to $1500 per year may be requested by an individual campus. The money cannot
cover the state conference.

Info needed for the team-building grant includes registration fees, airfare,
ground transportation, and documentation (copying, materials for
presentations). The hotel and a per diem is based on a $100 a day flat fee
no matter where you stay or eat.

You are right about the registration, but this is easily overcome. I asked
my principal to be the contact person with TCA and she was quite happy to let
me do it. So, I set up the ID and password for my campus and have made my
own application for the team-building grant. There are two forms
(organization and financial) that must also be submitted with the
team-building (or any other) grant proposal. These need a little input from
administration, but other than that this was an easy process.

Also, some areas in Texas are now centralized with TCA. Grants other than
the team-building might need to go through a local organization that is a
sub-granter. For instance, I have applied for other TCA grants (to bring in
artists and musicians and to provide workshops for teachers) that had to go
through the local arts council rather than TCA proper. It's a bit confusing
at first, but once a person goes through the process it gets easier.

The new TCA grants are now being accepted (as of September 1).

I'll be happy to lend a hand to anyone who needs advice on a TCA grant. Just
holler.

Stay safe, Kimberly! We are looking out the window at lightning and hoping
for rain. 85 days without rain is too much. North Texas looks awful.
