If you go to the New York Times learning web site they have a lesson about super heroes. Not sure if this will help but it may give you some ideas.

click on Lesson Plan Archive and then Fine Arts. The article is called From Zero to Superhero.
And the person who was looking for quilts, ther is also a lesson on quilting and history under The Fabric of America.
