Things like this are why I don't give much support to the ACLU. How can
anyone maintain that a minute of silence violates their First Amendment
rights? This is just plain stupid.

School granted minute of silence

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A federal judge on Thursday declined to stop public
schools in Virginia from requiring students to observe a minute of silence.
A state law that took effect July 1 requires all school districts to impose
a minute of silence so students can meditate, pray or engage in any other
silent activity. The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia sued on
behalf of eight students who said the new law violates their First Amendment
rights. One of the eight student plaintiffs was given detention this week
for walking out of class to protest the minute of silence.
