I do something similar to Suzette but no competition involved. Near the end
of each painting class, I tape a piece of white drawing paper on my tall
desk. As the kids come up with supposedly clean brushes, they have to wipe
their brush on the paper. If it's clean, they hand me the brush. If not,
they race back to the sink to clean. I get perfectly clean brushes every
time with no hassle after the first day of directions. It's a smooth
system.

I have an art teacher friend who goes a step further. He has the kids wipe
their supposedly clean brushes on their own clothes. Man...you KNOW those
brushes will be clean 'cause the kids will NOT wipe dirty brushes on their
own clothes! Works for him! Toodles........
