art tables & stools

My students hate their metal stools. They tell me they are uncomfortable and
it hurts their back. They want stools with backs to them that they can lean
back in to shift position. However, several of them have told me it's the
height that is so bad. They are too high for the tables, so they have to lean
too much and that puts strain on their back.
Our tables have hinges so they can be positioned at an angle. Some teachers I
know don't like that, as the students mess with them too much. I think if I
were teaching junior high again, I wouldn't like that, but mostly my high
schoolers use them somewhat responsibly.
I used to have tables with slots to put their books in. It always drove me up
a wall. I'd really rather be doing something else after school than clearing
out all the debris. Not to mention the scissors and markers that are much
easier to chuck in there than to put away.
