Something I've tried to instill in my own kids (whom we homeschool) is that
"learning" is their right; however, being "educated", having someone take
the time and effort to instruct them, is a privilege which can be withdrawn.

I understand the "against the grain" feeling, but you're right in deciding
to spend your time and energy with the ones who DO want to be educated.
