Re: low self-esteem

One thing I am doing different in my class this year to help students with
self-esteem is little post it notes... I use them to relate personal
messages to students. Sometimes it is to praise them for something they are
doing right, sometimes it is to remind them they need to stop talking and
focus on art project, sometimes it is just to say thanks for behaving in
class yesterday...

regardless the students self esteem seems to go up when they get a special
note from the teacher... my class knows we don't share these messages with
the other students -- it is just between the teacher and the student... If
they want to tell their friends they can outside of class. Most students
want to get a not and get recognized... and it works wonders if you just
make time for it.
